Museum After Midnight SAL FAQ

When does the "Museum After Midnight SAL" begin?

Pre-sale starts March 20th. This is when you will get all of the information you need to get ready for the SAL, including floss list, dimensions, exact dates, how to access the files, and other details.

The first part of the SAL, the "framework", will be released on April 24th. This will be mostly structural and will serve as a backdrop for the museum scene.

Weekly installments with featured animals will be released from June-September.

Can I join the SAL later?

Yes, you can jump in at any time. The pre-sale period is intended to give you time to gather supplies to be ready when the SAL starts.

What is the recommended fabric for the SAL?

The recommended fabric is "Royal Haven" Evenweave (lugana) and Aida by Barefoot Needleart.

Note: "Royal Haven" linen is not recommended for this project.

The design is 195 x 185 stitches (approx. 11 x 10.3 inches on 18-count, 14 x 13.2 inches on 14-count). It should fit on a fat quarter for all counts, however, if you prefer larger margins, you may wish to stitch on a larger piece of fabric.

Important: Linen fabrics dye significantly darker than evenweave/lugana and Aida. "Royal Haven" linen is absolutely gorgeous, but a bit too dark for this project. If you prefer to stitch on linen, I'll compile a list of alternatives to include in the pre-stitch instructions.

What is the theme/vibe of this SAL?

The design is a natural history museum, featuring extinct prehistoric creatures, with a focus is on the stranger and more dangerous elements of pre-history. I'd describe the vibe as "The Haunted Library" meets "The Deadly Aquarium", with lots of real science included.

Will it be all bones and fossils, or have you brought the creatures back to life?

There are a few bones and fossils to set an eerie museum scene, but the primary focus is bringing these amazing creatures back to life. This museum is chaotic and creepy, and hopefully a lot of fun.

Is it a dinosaur SAL?

Not entirely. There will be some dinosaurs, of course, but many other extinct animals.

Are the prehistoric creatures scientifically accurate in this design?

I hope so. Even though the design emphasizes the "creepy" side of natural history, it is very important to me to represent these creatures as real, living animals and not just horror movie monsters. The animal recreations incorporate known information from paleontology research, modern animal anatomy and behavior, and public domain paleoart. (Huge respect to paleo-artists!)

Will there be an index, like the past SALs, with information about the animals?

Absolutely!

Did you use AI for any of this?

No way! All of the artwork in this design was hand-drawn by me. All promotional materials use ethically-sourced and licensed stock photos and no AI-generated images.
